Ready, Set, . . .
Thank you for everyone who prayed for Kelly’s repeat kidney biopsy (12/26). It thankfully went uneventfully and we now await results. Kel is feeling well, minus a little bit of soreness and the recommendation to “take it easy” with another set of lifting restrictions for 7-10 days.
Ready, Set, . . .
Today we not only have an established plan of care, but also a start date. It’s kind of nice to have the wheels beginning to feel like they are in motion, or at least slightly starting to turn. Throughout the last couple days, we have confirmed and established the treatment start date, found and booked living arrangements in Arizona, and officially booked flights.
Monday, January 8, 2024 is the day Kelly will get started at the clinic. He will be living full-time in Scottsdale, Arizona throughout the weeks of his care. We have planned and done all the prep work for 6 weeks worth of care, but know that the length may extend as they monitor and evaluate the therapies involved for Kelly’s kidneys and lymphoma. The plan of care provided from the integrated oncology clinic broke down specifics of his care for 6 weeks, but also noted the potential of 8-12 weeks total. We plan to eat this elephant one bite at a time, and have stepped forward with the “6 weeks” time in mind, and trust the Lord will provide and show us the way as needed. Walking by faith.
After several phone calls, emails, texts, numerous searches on tons of rental sites available, AirBnB proved to be the most simplistic and best pricing option found for the McGoo Crew’s living arrangements while in Arizona. The goal was a space that Kelly could utilize with ease, not have to move constantly, have availability for visitors that might come to see him, and house the McGoo Crew in full on the weeks we are blessed to be all together. We booked January 5-February 17: a gated condo, 2nd story unit, 2 bedrooms, fully furnished, in unit laundry available with heated pool option in the community. (*Please note, no fundraising dollars are being utilized for housing needs.)
Flights are booked, as well. Thankfully Allegiant has direct flights from Kalispell, MT to Phoenix/Mesa, AZ. The entire McGoo Crew will fly out Friday, January 5. This will give us time to get settled into the condo and travel to the Tucson area to see Kelly’s mom and step-dad over the weekend before treatment begins. The Mrs. and kiddos will return to MT on Friday, January 12th (*Please note, no fundraising dollars are being utilized for flight needs.)
So, it’s not “GO TIME” yet, but we’re getting READY and SET for the upcoming GO. January 5th will be here before we know it.
One of the pieces of the puzzle that we are continuing to figure out is transportation. The McGoo Crew will need a car while we are in Arizona. If anyone has a contact with an extra car in Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale surrounding areas that isn’t being used and wants to share with minimal expenses to us, please let us know! We are praying for a connection, but will work to rent a vehicle in the traditional way if necessary. Thankfully it sounds like we have an opportunity to have Kelly’s transport needs to and from the clinic Monday through Friday while the family is away taken care of through the Road to Recovery program provided by the American Cancer Society. The details for that program and access to make transport requests just arrived through email, so we look forward to pursuing that potential and are grateful for the opportunity.
Thank you again to everyone that has prayed, continues to pray, has given financially, and has shared about Kelly’s health journey and our need with others. Every little bit helps and it adds up along the way! We are thankful!
